What percentage of elements in the periodic table are considered metals?

Metals constitute a significant majority of the elements in the periodic table. In fact, approximately 75% of the elements are classified as metals. This classification includes alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, post-transition metals, lanthanides, and actinides. The majority of these metals possess characteristic properties such as malleability, ductility, thermal and electrical conductivity, as well as high melting and boiling points.

The presence of a higher number of metallic elements compared to nonmetals and metalloids confirms that around three-quarters of the periodic table consists of metals. Nonmetals and metalloids make up the remaining portion, typically around 25%, making the choice of 75% the most accurate representation of the percentage of metals in the periodic table.
